Liftoff started as a place to document becoming a space psychologist. Then readers arrived from product management publications, I started writing for them, and a passion project turned into work. I stopped enjoying it, and I’m changing that.
About three years ago I decided I want to be a space psychologist when I grow up.
Yet I’m still in that liminal space of becoming — shedding the old identity of ‘product director’, not yet embodying the new, desired identity of ‘space psychologist’. It’s one you may recognise yourself if you’re in mid career transition, and it’s both deeply uncomfortable and intensely freeing.
Whilst I figure out who I am and how I get there, there are three core interests that intersect in ways I want to explore more through writing here:
How we perform under extremes: space being the ultimate test of leadership and teamwork under pressure within a hostile environment
How modern organisations work and what their future looks like: based on what I’m learning in my MSc in organisational psychology
How beliefs drive our behaviour: do beliefs live inside us, or do we live inside systems of belief? (¿y por qué no los dos?)
I understand this won’t be for everyone, so I want to give you some options.
If you want more on how to develop your career in Product, then follow me at Mind the Product where I’m now a Contributing Editor.
If you want to hear how my career transition goes, and learn more about space and organisational psychology, stick around here. I’ll be posting a minimum of once a month, and more when I have something worth sharing — not the weekly cadence that had become a yoke rather than a joy.
And if it’s really not your thing anymore, then no hard feelings if you want to unsubscribe. I get it. Attention is finite and there’s too many newsletters clambering to be read nowadays.
The sky is not the limit. Ad astra.
